The Dome

The National Botanic Garden of Wales is a centre of world significance taking shape in the hills overlooking the beautiful Towy Valley in South West Wales.

The £43.3 million project, dedicated to horticulture, science, education, conservation, leisure and the arts, has attracted £21.7 million from the Millennium Commission.

Preview days were available in 1999 offering an unique opportunity to see the Great Glasshouse, the necklace of lakes and the herbaceous Broadwalk with its rill and fountains. The Garden opened in 2000.

The Garden of Wales is built on a 568-acre estate steeped in history. The  parkland was developed by William Paxton in the late 1700s. It is a setting that has provided regency buildings, walled gardens, lakes, waterfalls and cascades for restoration. Past and present will combine to give visitors a rich experience and a vision of a sustaining future.

The central theme shows how plants are the life sustainers on whose potential and diversity the future of Mankind depends.

It is a flagship for preferred futures and a reminder that today’s generation has a choice - to make or break the environment.

The Garden welcomes correspondence in Welsh or English. Guided tours are normally conducted through the medium of English and are available in Welsh by advance request.
